ArborMedix - Our Process

IPM-Integrated Pest Management- includes following the ANSI A-300 Fertilization Standards -

1.) “The reason for fertilization is to supply nutrients determined to be deficient to achieve a clearly defined objective. That objective should be accomplished in a manner most beneficial to the plant”

2.) “Fertilizer should be applied so that nutrients are available when roots are growing”

To avoid detrimental excessive growth and greater pest problems all Fertilizer applications will be made only when a field check indicates annual shoot growth is less than 2 inches or when a soil test (may be an additional charge) directs the application. When necessary we use Shallow Soil Injection Process to treat nutrient deficiencies in the rhizosphere (the narrow region that surrounds the roots)

Order of Importance relating to growth promotion:
#1 Light
#2 Water
#3 Air (soil air available [compaction])
#4 Organic Matter
#5 pH
#6 Fertilizer

Fungicides – may not always be necessary or even advisable. The best management strategy against plant diseases is by promoting plant health in the first place. Before planting, make sure that soil, water, and light conditions are ideal for your plant. Once the plants have been established, make sure to use the appropriate sanitation, fertilization, and pruning practices to enhance plant health. Also proper inspection and identification allows us to reduce the use of anti-fungal products. As an example instead of spraying all crabapple trees on a given site a careful inspection may reveal resistant varieties such as- those found here: [ A partial listing of crabapples evaluated by Michigan State University reported as having no scab to slight scab ( with no defoliation) include the following (listed alphabetically): Malus baccata “Jackii”, “Beverly”, “Bob White”, “David”, M. floribunda, “Harvest Gold”, “Liset”, “Mary Potter”, “Ormiston Roy”, “Prairifire”, “Professor Sprenger”, “Red Jewel”, “Red Splendor”, M. sargentii, “Sentinel”, “Silver Moon”, “Sugar Tyme”, “White Angel”, and “Winter Gold”.] Although these may show minor spotting from the disease they will retain their look and will not warrant a fungicide program .

Insecticides, correct identification will prevent the elimination of beneficial organisms and predatory insects. We record monitoring results and inspection findings, including recommendations.

Many monitoring techniques are available and often vary according to the pest. Successful IPM programs routinely monitor: pest populations; areas vulnerable to pests; and the efficacy of prevention and control methods.

IPM plans are updated in response to monitoring results.

We Set Action Thresholds

An action threshold is the pest population level at which the pest's presence is a:

1. nuisance;
2. health hazard; or
3. Economic threat.
